CARL R. ROGERS in Österreich

tasapgAKADEMIE

Institute for Person-Centered Studies (IPS of APG)

Founded in 1969 as tas – team für angewandte sozialpsychologie / team for applied social psychology (from 1979 APG - now: Arbeitsgemeinschaft Personzentrierte Psychotherapie, Gesprächsführung und Supervision, from 1996 IPS of APG - Institute for Person-Centered Studies) the Institute is dedicated to continue the work of Carl Rogers and colleagues in developing, researching and teaching the Person-Centred Approach in psychotherapy, counselling, supervision, pedagogy, social and pastoral work, politics and related fields.

It was the first Austrian institution to teach PCA. Its programmes were developed in co-operation with Carl Rogers and Doug Land from the Center for Studies of the Person in La Jolla, California. (See Rogers’ letter of support from 1979 prior to the personal co-operation at http://schmid.members.1012.at/ips-crr.htm.) From the beginning of the legal regulation in 1990 the APG was recognized by the government as training institution under the psychotherapy law. Its basic principles became the Training Standards of PCE Europe from 2001.

Trainers of the Institute run the Department for Person-Centered Psychotherapy Study at the Sigmund-Freud University in Vienna, Austria, a full university-based study and training programme in PCT including doctorate. In addition, the IPS-based Akademie für Beratung und Psychotherapie / Academy for Counselling and Psychotherapy runs courses, training programmes and further training for PCT, PC Group Psychotherapy, Counselling, Supervision and Organizational Development, and Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy.

Numerous publications by authors from the Institute in many languages as well as presentations at international congresses, conferences and symposia have been contributing significantly to the development of person-centred theory and practice. The Institute is co-founder of the international German language journal PERSON.

The IPS is both founding member of the WAPCEPC and NEAPCEPC (now PCE Europe) and Austrian umbrella organizations.
